3 Cheap Purchases That Beat Expensive Alternatives

Cheap is often cheap for a reason, but do you really need what the more expensive option offers?

It is a business's job to convince you that you “need” something.

When they can’t convince you that you need something as well as something else, they will convince you to buy the better version, the optional extras, or the premium features.

This is annoying and often nonsense.

If you have spent any time reading Bulls**t Jobs by David Graeber, you may understand what I mean more.

So in that spirit, what is best done cheap?

I will try to help you today, as I try to do in all my writing.

1. Basic Kindle £74.99 when on sale, around $80

I have the Kindle Oasis, the fancy one, but the thing I use most of all is the basic, denim (blue) Kindle.

Why would I use the Fiesta when I have the Ferrari in the garage?

When it comes to reading, I just want to get the job done. Get going. Make progress, and it doesn’t matter to me how I do it. It is the reading and the text that matter.

The beauty of the basic Kindle is its small size, light weight, and ability to be thrown anywhere without fear.

It is cheap; it feels cheap, but the words on it hold the same weight as if written in gold text on an oak board.

The simplicity of the basic Kindle simply makes me read more and faster. That is what I care about.

2. Basic A5 notepad £1.50 each
