These are some things that I’ve implemented in my life over the past 2–3 years that continue to pay off in time and productivity dividends.
I hope they can help you too.
(1) Filtering email — Gmail, Proton, and other email providers allow you to filter your emails, and if you have never used it, you have no idea what an impact it can have on your life. For example, I don’t care about every single email from Amazon about my purchases, but I still want them, so they are automatically filtered by marking them as read and filing them into an Amazon folder. This is the same for eBay, PayPal or anything else that I don’t want to butt its way into my inbox.
(2) Filter newsletters — I don’t subscribe to many, but those I do want to read. However, they should not take priority over actionable emails, so I instead filter them by moving them automatically to a folder called “newsletter” but I DO NOT mark them as read. So when I notice the folder with a number next to it, I know I have some casual reading to do when I want.
