It pains me to spend too much money, but therein lies the problem of how much is too much money.
It is all relative, so a book that is £30 seems pretty expensive compared with a £6 paperback, but the value often lies deeper. Sometimes, regardless of recommendations and reviews, I still find myself resisting spending when I don’t have to spend big. But what about the times when I took a leap of faith and it really paid off?
(1) M1 MacBook £999 after a discount — I don’t really know what pushed me to take the plunge with the cheapest M1, but I am so glad I did. No fan, so pretty much silent, fast, responsive, more like an iPad in responsiveness than a traditional laptop. It still feels fantastic and does everything I need, plus I appreciate it being so light and portable.
(2) Apple Watch Series 6 £376 after a discount — The initial high cost of a smart watch really was offputting to start with. It really is not that good for me, and I almost solely use it for one thing. But that one thing is fantastic and is actually its simplest feature. I love being able to check what notifications are coming in on my phone while I work with my hands or am otherwise busy, so I know if I need to do anything or can keep on going. The number of times this has prevented me from stopping what I was doing is worth the one-off cost.
