The App I Ignored for Too Long

Sometimes you know an app without really knowing it.

You have seen it on other people’s devices, seen it in the app store, or even seen it in a video, but for some reason, you just never thought it was interesting enough to try.

That happens to me a lot, unfortunately, but for once, I have a story with a happy ending, for I have found gold.

Sofa, the app I had no idea I needed and had no idea how it worked.

Cutting right to the chase, Sofa is a downtime organizer, in their own words.

Make lists, make groups, add stuff, mark activities, move them around a bit and there we have it. Think leisure activities, but let me break Sofa down a little bit more.

I used to keep track of movies, books, video games and other downtime activities in a combination of Notion, Capacities and even Things 3. Things 3 would remind me daily of what I was currently doing using recurring reminders, telling me the book I was reading, video game I wanted to get through, next thing to watch on TV or what I was halfway through. Then, when I had downtime, I could glance at this mini list and instantly get reminded, as I feel that making the most of your downtime is as important as making the most of your work time.

Sofa takes that idea and fleshes it out beautifully, adding extra functionality such as putting items on the shelf, which is essentially pinning items to a unique list called the shelf.

You can also mark activity by simply tapping it on an item, which creates a sort of history that you can look back on. You can then have the items deleted if needed, but I actually use the groups functionality by having an archive as a…
